Puebla – Oaxaca
Zapotitlan Salinas
At Tehuacan Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve in the south part of the State of Puebla, there is a municipality called Zapotitlan Salinas, where organic salt ancestral tradition production continues.
Around a 4 hours trip from Mexico City, we leave at 6:00 am. Let have breakfast in a traditional food local restaurant, we´ll finally arrive to the salt mines, where a local guide will explain us how the salt of the place has been obtained and elaborate along the centuries. We start 3 hours hiking on the Cuthá archaeological site, which is on the Masks hill, land of the Ngiwa people, on a vast area cover by different types of cactus and agaves (maguey), we´ll visit tombs and residential areas of this important ethnic that was invaded first by the Mexicas (Aztecs) and later control by the Spanish conquerors mainly by Franciscans priest. Our local guide will explain us the cacti and herbaceous plants medical used along the route. Distance 3.9 km or 2.4 miles
Time to go back to hour hotel, free afternoon and meals will be served in the same place where we had breakfast.
After breakfast let get ready to a marine fossils photographic hunt experience located over a river canal where water is scarce. Just during the raining season on the surrounding mountains large flow removes the soil leaving expose the marine fossils. Distance 2.2 km or 1.3 miles.
Later over, we will visit a Palenque, place where artisanal mezcal is elaborated, and have tasting including a Pichomel mezcal bottle for the group.
Go back to the hotel. On the afternoon we are going to visit the Giant Sotolins Forest a 1.2 km – .74 miles. We get something to eat and go back to Mexico City.
