Ajusco
Mexico City is a valley surrounded not only by mountains but also, volcanoes that have affected among other things the landscape of the area, and the first civilizations’ way of life.
It’s a 4 to 6 hours hiking loop and the summit (Pico del Águila-Cruz del Marques)is about 3,930 mts. above sea level (12,894 ft.) A rise in elevation of 709 masl (2,326 ft.) and 369 masl (1,211 ft.) drop in descent. Amazing landscapes can be seen of Mexico City, Popocatépetl. Iztaccihuatl and Nevado de Toluca volcanoes, if it is a clear day. After hiking is lunch time and we will enjoy local food (quesadillas, mushroom soup and pot coffee), its a 9 hours tour, 40 minutes from the city center. Axochco, or Ajusco (Spanish) in Nahuatl means “water place where flowers sprout out”.
